Perhaps you don't find those shows funny, but I certainly do find some of them hilarious. Comedy isn't a one-size-fits-all kind of deal.

The Mighty Boosh isn't a Hollywood creation, its made by a few British comedians who have a long history of abstract humour on an extremely tight budget. If you don't get it - fine. Noel Fielding is a weird guy, and what he and his mates get up to isn't immediately funny to everyone. It is, however, funny to me. And it always will be funny, because that's the way I'm geared. I'd rather die than watch the "Hollywood" comedies such as 2 1/2 men, and every other crap sitcom that's come out of the US and onto our television screens - Will and Grace, Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, etc. Sure, they have funny moments every now and then, but it's not what I'm after. I don't like the formula, mostly. It's boring, it's been done, and I want something different.

The same way that abstract art isn't for everyone, the same way impressionists shit some people, the same way there's a place for phil collins in the world so too will there be a place for abstract comedy. Idiocracy wasn't funny because it's happening, it was just slightly more relevant because it's happening. It was reasonably low in genuine funniness, in my opinion. But that's just it - it's my opinion.

I guess this can go back and forth all day long, and perhaps that's why you've written the article - it's total flamebait, perfect for trolling. However, if you're serious and trying to claim that you can speak for all of humanity and for all the cultures with your "because I have a pulse, I do know what “funny” is" then I'm afraid you've got it wrong. Tim and Eric is funny, if you have the right context with which to view it - if you don't, then its not funny. Simple.

Monty Python, the Goon Show, Q7 and all the other classic British comedies are the inspiration for these new breeds of TV shows. If you never found them funny, it's doubtful you'll find much joy in Mighty Boosh, Tim and Eric, Peepshow, Family Guy, American Dad, etc.
I, do. Please understand.

Cheers,
